Our Mission Statement:
In June of 2000, Lips Down On Dixie was formally organized. LDOD was created to perform a screen accurate production of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show”, every Friday evening as an alternative entertainment source for the Atlanta metro area.
Specifically targeting the 17-29 year-olds in the area, LDOD uses "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" as a place to go, have fun and not be pressured to drink alcohol or consume illicit drug substances. On December 1, 2000, they premiered at the LeFont Plaza Theatre in the Poncey Highlands Atlanta. Since then, LDOD has performed their screen accurate production every single Friday at Midnight.
LDOD’s aim is to become a “Community Cabaret” for the metro Atlanta area. In doing so, they see themselves as a viable source of theatre for Atlanta, and a small community based launching board for local actors to get into the groove of professional theatre.
LDOD is not only a screen accurate production of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, but it is also a cabaret piece in its own right, which has been performed at several metro Atlanta venues.
As a result of the LDOD production of RHPS, the Board of Directors believe they can influence the community in several very positive ways:
1: Performing the RHPS every Friday evening gives teens (over 17) and young adults a chance to go to a party where they will be supported for whomever they are, neither race nor sexual identity, nor gender or religious belief separates or keeps people from attending or enjoying a production of RHPS by LDOD. RHPS also gives teens a chance to go where there are no drugs or alcoholic beverages for sale or allowed to be consumed.
2: Performing the RHPS every Friday evening continues to expose new audiences to another world, a world that promotes self-love and confidence. A common and repetitive phrase within Rocky Horror is “Be Just and Fear Not”. Something young adults don’t get to hear very often from contemporary films or television. The RHPS is one of the few films left to young adults, which is pure fantasy; it neither is gratuitously violent or irresponsible in its message.
3: LDOD’s performance is non-inclusive, meaning that everyone who goes to view the film and cast can get involved as much or as little as they would like. LDOD prides itself as a launching board for rising actors in the Atlanta metro area.We accept credit cards and paypal
